Attendance
View PXU's 2022-23 School Year Handbook (pages 15 and 46-48) for more information.
Families play a key role in making sure that students arrive on time at school safely, every day, and that they understand why attendance is important for success in school, and on the job.
Attendance Definitions
Attendance: A student is to be counted present if,
they are in attendance for more than half a class period
if they are participating in a school-authorized activity
Types of Absences:
Excused (EXC)
A health care professional (doctor, dentist, health plan, etc.) or parent, legal guardian or person responsible for a student must verify student absences, with submittal of a signed excuse stating the reason for the absence upon the student’s return to school.
Parents are to call the school’s attendance office, if possible, on or before the day of the absence.
Extra-Curricular Activity Absences (BRO)
Students are allowed to attend an extra-curricular activity upon being brown slipped from affected classes. An activity will be coded as “Brown Slip (BRO)”, which is an excused absence for a school related or school sponsored event. Extra-curricular activities include, but are not limited to field trips, athletic games and student activities.
Unexcused (ABS)
An absence in which the student is out of school that does not qualify as excused or brown slipped. When a parent or guardian does not call in to report an absence, the absence will be marked unexcused. The Principal can determine or change the absence
from unexcused to excused or from excused to unexcused.
