Classroom Applications
CultureGrams® can be used in the classroom in various ways to enhance global awareness and cultural understanding. Here are some key applications:
Geography: Research different countries, cultures, and traditions. Map activities that connect geography with culture.
History: Understand how cultural traditions shape modern societies.
World Languages: Discover countries where world languages are spoken, and explore their greetings, customs, and etiquette.
Global Citizenship- Encouraging discussions on cultural appreciation and respect.
Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan 1: Global Culture Comparison
Objective:
Students will compare and contrast cultural aspects of two countries using CultureGrams to analyze traditions, customs, and daily life.
Materials:
Access to CultureGrams®
Graphic organizer (Venn Diagram or comparison chart)
Internet and presentation tools (PowerPoint, Canva, etc.)
Procedure:
Introduction (5 min)
Discuss the importance of cultural awareness.
Introduce key cultural aspects to analyze (e.g., food, education, family life, traditions).
Research (25 min)
Students select two countries to compare.
Use CultureGrams® to gather information on cultural similarities and differences.
Fill out the comparison chart or Venn Diagram.
Presentation (20 min)
Students present their findings in small groups or as a class.
Discuss key takeaways and insights from the comparisons.
Assessment:
Graded comparison chart and presentation.
Reflection questions (e.g., "What surprised you the most about these cultures?").
