Section 504
Students who present with a physical or mental impairment that impacts one or more major life activities may be eligible for a 504 plan. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and guarantees individuals with disabilities equal access to education. PXU outlines the differences between Section 504 and the IDEA, provides an extensive FAQ, and shares the forms and processes for evaluation, eligibility, and placement in our Section 504 Manual.
In order to determine if your student is eligible for protections under Section 504, please reach out to the campus 504 Coordinator or call the ESS Director for more information. You may find a list of the campus contacts at 504 Campus Contacts.
For more information regarding Section 504, resources in the community you may benefit from Arizona Center for Disability Law or Raising Special Kids.
