Alhambra Moving to One Lunch for 2025-2026

Greetings Lion Families,

Thank you for choosing Alhambra High School. Working alongside our incredible educators and educational support professionals to deliver the best educational experience in the city is an honor and privilege.

I am writing to share some exciting news for the 2025-2026 school year. Beginning this fall, our campus will switch from a two-lunch bell schedule to provide one lunch for all students. We decided to make the shift because having one lunch offers the following benefits:

-              Provides more flexibility for student schedules and class options

-              Allows opportunities for club and sports activities to include all participants

-              Gives additional safeguards against double lunching and ditching

-              Builds school-wide culture through a shared community experience each day

-              Opens additional campus spaces to students during lunch

When we began considering moving to one lunch, we solicited feedback from students, staff, parents, and the broader community to help guide our decision. Please see below for response to the feedback and questions we received:

-              Alhambra High School will always prioritize the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Therefore, we will have a comprehensive safety plan to support the additional students attending the one lunch period. Additional information will be released soon, but please know that additional safety measures will be in place, including additional staff on duty during lunch.

-              The district will renovate existing spaces and add air-conditioned and shaded structures so that we can comfortably accommodate additional students eating at one time.

-              The renovations will also allow our cafeteria staff to prepare more meals so that we do not run out of food options.

-              Our team will provide additional food carts, food access points, and service lines to provide easier access for students.  The increased access will decrease wait times so all may be served and eat without having to rush.

-              We will open our gyms, the library, and other common buildings/spaces currently unavailable during lunch to provide even more space for students to eat, gather, and enjoy each other’s company during lunch.

As we implement the shift, not everything will change. Students will still be expected to clean up after themselves, show proper student ID, live our school’s values, and adhere to our high expectations for student behavior and safety.

We look forward to partnering with our community over the next few months to prepare for the shift to one lunch. We welcome any feedback from those we serve to ensure we have a smooth and safe transition. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback for our consideration, please do not hesitate to contact our front office at (602) 764-6022; I am happy to discuss this change further.

Please be on the lookout for additional messaging about the shift to one lunch over the next few months and thank you for your continued trust and collaboration.

Respectfully,

Dr. Jodi Weber
