Our Mission
The mission of the school counseling program at Metro Tech High School is to provide a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program addressing the academic, career and social-emotional growth of all students. By being compassionate, collaborative, committed, courageous, creative, and conscious, we design and implement a program to promote student achievement, opportunity, and success for all students. School counselors advocate for equity, access, and student success by identifying and addressing barriers, allowing students to become responsible, impactful members of society and lifelong learners. The school counselors support the learning environment and nurture student growth. We are committed to preparing students to meet the challenges of their global generation.

ASCA Model
Beginning in the 23-24 school year, our team of six school counselors began the process of becoming a National Model School with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA). We have been spending time managing our programming, assessing our best practices and delivering content and programming related to college, career and the social/emotional domains.
Our responsibilities include:
Proactive and data driven; impact measured via achievement, attendance and behavior data
Provide academic, college/career and social/emotional support for Metro Tech students
Orientation, coordination and academic advising for all students over their 4 years of attendance
Provide counseling to students who face barriers to school success (absences, disciplinary, etc.)
Consult with teachers to schedule and present school counseling curriculum for all grades based on the development and goals (post high school planning) of students
Utilize community organizations to support our students post-secondary plans and goals
Collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to support student achievement
Analyze grade point averages in relation to achievement, use this data to drive supports
Use the national model, ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for student success as an anchor in all we do
Advocate for students at individual education plan and 504 meetings, student study and I-Teams
Develop, manage and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program that is for ALL students
Maintain a high level of ethics related to student issues of confidentiality, records maintenance, duty of care, equitable access to programs/courses, treat all students with dignity and respect, etc.
We are available for one-on-one appointments, consultation through email, phone or Teams messaging!
Registration
The following is our In-House Registration Plan for the 24-25 school year. Students receive a presentation via class, along with materials, to support their registration plans for the next academic school year. Students will meet with their school counselor to review their plan for courses and evaluate their progress toward graduation. As part of this process, students will update their XELLO Course Planner as part of the Education & Career Action Plan.
Parents or guardians are welcome to reach out to counselors with questions and to meet to discuss future educational goals and planning.

Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are used for college admissions applications (highly selective, out of state, honors college applications), scholarship opportunities, and leadership positions.
Students should inquire about a letter of recommendation 2-3 weeks in advance of the due date. Students are asked to provide a “Brag Sheet” or a document that shares details about their accomplishments in and out of school, community service and work involvement, and unique personal circumstances. Letters are generally directly sent to the school or program via a web link, and are not given directly to the student.
Scholarships
Scholarships are posted on student grade level Class of ____ Teams Channels on a weekly basis. This includes for grades 9-11 when we are made aware, but primarily for our current seniors. Students are encouraged to spend 5 hours minimum weekly searching for and applying to scholarships.
