Marcus and Mark Carter return to PXU to lead Maryvale's football program. The full article is in the Arizona Republic, Saturday, February 8, 2025, p. B4 by Richard Obert.

Marcus and Mark Carter, after a year away from Arizona as assistant high school coaches in Georgia, are returning to Phoenix to lead Maryvale High Schoolā€™s struggling football program.

This marks a return to the Phoenix Union High School district for the Carter brothers, who led South Mountain for four years and have always been co-head coaches. Marcus coaches the defensive side of the ball, while Mark works with the offense.

They were part of The Arizona Republicā€™s video documentary, ā€œBeyond the Gridiron,ā€ in 2019 when they were at Phoenix South Mountain, which was picked up by Amazon. That season the Jaguars went 7-3, winning their first region title in 11 years.

"What we learned at South and learned at DE is consistency,ā€ Mark said. ā€œMarcus and I have prided ourselves in being consistently consistent. Those kids in that area are people we can identify with. And some people who know weā€™re going to be there to help them. Weā€™re really excited to get to Maryvale and start working.ā€
