Carl Hayden Community High School Launches Innovative Dual Language Program

Carl Hayden Community High School is proud to announce the launch of its groundbreaking dual language program for the 2024-2025 school year; becoming the first first Phoenix Union High School District school to launch such a program. Families are encouraged to enroll now to hold their place as the program is expected to reach full capacity very soon.

The dual language program will provide an immersive experience for students in both English and Spanish. Students will receive direct instruction for half of their core classes in each language. The initiative aims to provide students with an enriching educational experience that not only fosters bilingualism but also equips them with the skills necessary for success in college, career, and life.

Superintendent Thea Andrade expressed her excitement about the new program, stating, "We are thrilled to introduce the dual language program at Carl Hayden Community High School. This initiative aligns with our commitment to offering diverse and comprehensive educational opportunities that prepare students for a globalized world. The dual language program not only celebrates linguistic diversity but also enhances cognitive abilities, fostering a well-rounded educational experience for our students."

Principal Dr. Julio Rubio highlighted the importance of the program, saying, "At Carl Hayden, we believe in providing all students with the tools they need to excel in every aspect of life. The dual language program opens doors to increased cultural awareness and communication skills, which are essential for success in today's interconnected world. This initiative aligns with some of our partner elementary districts as well as local K-8 charter schools and will ensure students have a seamless dual language experience when they enter high school."
