From The Principal

Dear Falcons

I am excited to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope that the summer provided you with the necessary rest and relaxation to start the new school year energized and rejuvenated. First day of school is August 8, 2022. Carl Hayden is ready for the next move!

Last year, we started the school year with uncertainty. However, our focus on our School of Excellence vision, loving our students and learning helped us to stay afloat and to thrive as a community during difficult times. A clear example are the recognitions and accomplishments that we received last year. I am proud to announce that our school was awarded the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. This award recognizes schools for their work to expand access for young women to computer science courses and for closing the gender equity gap in computer science. We are very proud of our Center for Computer Studies Magnet Program and our students!

In addition, Carl Hayden was in the Top 10 Most Improved FAFSA Completion Rate among large high schools in Arizona. This allows more Falcons and their families access and financial flexibility to go to college. We are proud of our Meta-Network team, our counselors and all staff involved in promoting FAFSA.

Carl Hayden also had a successful year in athletics. Our football team had its first winning season in years, led by our amazing Coach Arenas, who was named PXU Football Coach of the year. Congratulations as well to our other two PXU Coaches of the year, our amazing Coach Robles and Coach Brown, for leading our cross-country and basketball teams to a successful season. In addition, we are super proud of our soccer team who made it to the state semifinals. And of course, we are proud of the leadership of our amazing PXU Athletic Director of the year, Ms. Sara Matthews.

As you can see, despite being a difficult year, our Falcon Community was able to thrive! We are ready to continue to provide our students with a great high school experience. We are ready for the next move! #PXUNext.

As you start the new school year, we want to encourage you to get involved during your high school years. At Carl Hayden, there are so many different sports and clubs to choose from. If you have not already joined a club or sport, make sure to stop by the office of student opportunities to learn more.

Carl Hayden offers a welcoming and supportive environment to ensure your success. Our office of student success, our counseling department and our support services team are always available for you.

Freshman Orientation is on July 27th and July 28th. Please review the attached flyers for more information. We are excited to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year. We are looking forward to seeing you on campus! #Falconpride #PXUnext
